We have two hard-working counselors here at BTMS and though they do not always seem busy, they work very hard to ensure we have a stable learning environment. They have very interesting and difficult jobs, and they are there if you ever need help with problems at school or at home.

The main jobs of the counselors are to help kids with academics; help kids with problems at home or school; meet with parents; help teachers; help create students' schedules and to find resources for kids, parents and teachers. They have many jobs to do and they work very hard to do them. “It’s fun to help kids and work with people that help kids,” said Ms. Daniels.

Ms. Daniels loves working in schools and has a lot of experience with working in schools and working with adolescents. ”I initially taught for eleven years at a private school in Tacoma, then subbed for the next six while my son was growing up,” Ms. Daniels said, but that is not where her experience ends. After she finished getting her counseling degree, she was a counselor in a large public high school in Olympia for three years. She later started her own private counseling business that provided in-home counseling services for adolescents and families, which she did for ten years. Ms. Daniels did all of this before coming to BTMS, so she has a lot of experience with schools, counseling and adolescents.

Mr. Sos got into counseling because he wanted to help kids out and wanted to make a difference in student’s lives. Mr. Sos says that he really enjoys working with kids and working at Brier Terrace. “I love coming to work here every day,” Mr. Sos said. This is Mr. Sos' first job in education and his only experience is here at BTMS.

The main thing that separates school counselors from other counselors is that school counselors are more academic focused and deal mainly with problems at school. Mr. Sos says he would like more kids to talk to him about their relationships with other kids and if they are being bullied. Ms. Daniels would like to let all students know that she and Mr. Sos are there if you are ever having a hard time and need to talk about it with someone.
