We have gotten many new teachers this year at Brier Terrace. One of them is our seventh grade science teacher, Ms. Janacek. This may be Ms. Janacek’s first year at Brier Terrace, but she has past experience in science and education. She is very excited to teach here.

“I have always loved junior high school,” Ms. Janacek said. Ms. Janacek used to live in Seattle but moved up to the Brier area because she wanted more space for her family.

“When I was in high school, I had a tough science teacher, but I learned a lot,” Ms. Janacek said. She also says that she has always wanted to be the kind of teacher who is tough but teaches a lot to the students. She has always been involved in science in all of her jobs, such as when she was working for the Pacific science Center and being an educator at the zoo. Her favorite experiment she has ever done is working with a Van de Graaff machine, a type of machine that can send a shock throughout your body.

The biggest thing she has learned in her teaching career is that sometimes you have to understand that students need to have fun while learning science.

The first impression she had when she came to Brier Terrace is that it was a warm and friendly school. She appreciates the warm welcome that the students and staff have given her. Ms. Janacek seems very enthusiastic about science and very excited for the year ahead.
