If you look at it one way, the world is just a big book sheathing everyone’s stories. Generations are chapters, years are page numbers. Stories we remember, stories we don't remember, and even the embarrassing ones are carefully typed up and shoved into this hypothetical book. We all have stories to tell.

This is us.

We tell stories.

“One morning in kindergarten I got there early to class and my friends were reading a frog and toad book. They were pointing at the pictures and it occurred to me that everyone always used their pointer finger to point. So I decided to that I would try pointing with another finger just to be cool. Of course I picked my middle finger and started pointing all over the book with my middle finger. One of my friends who knew what it meant started yelling, ‘Teacher! Teacher!’ My teacher scolded me and then asked if I knew what it meant and I said, ‘I don’t know but I saw some man do it to us as we passed him on the freeway so it must be cool!’ as I waved both of my middle fingers in the air at my teacher. That was the day I learned what the Principal’s office was.” -Themba Kimani, 8th

“I wanted braces when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and we were watching a movie about agriculture, and my friend [Paige Knibbe] got an early release to get braces. When she got back, I smiled at her and she smiled back and I said: ‘Oh my god you got braces, I’m so jealous!’ ” -Abby Hannuksela, 7th

“We would fake cough in the third grade, and our teacher would make us go and get cough drops and we would grab like a handful and hide them in our desks and eat them while the teacher wasn’t looking.” -Elsie Johnson, 7th

“When I was in the third grade and we came inside after recess, my classmates would say: ‘It’s cold outside, let’s make a hot tub!’ so we pushed tables together and made hot tubs during silent reading time.” -Paige Knibbe, 7th

“When I was in 4th grade, we used to have a little black market and trade stuff.”-Ellie Gard, 7th
