The Seattle Seahawks have ended their 2014 season with 12 wins and 4 losses and post-season with 2 wins and 1 loss. They made it to three Super Bowls (winning the second) and have been the champions of the NFC (National Football Conference) for two consistent seasons (three in total).
Russell Wilson led in passing yards in the team with 3475 yards in total. Marshawn Lynch led the Seahawks in rushing yards with 1306 yards in all. Doug Baldwin led in receiving yards with a 825. K.J. Wright was the leader in tackles with 107 tackles altogether. Richard Sherman, the Seahawks' cornerback, was the leader in interceptions this year with 4 interceptions, and a career total of 24 interceptions.
In an interview with The Seattle Times, Seahawks wide receiver, Chris Matthews, who made his first NFL reception during the Super Bowl, said, “I’m extremely mad about that [Super Bowl loss] but we will get over it and I’m going to work off this offseason and come back a better player hopefully. I know for sure, when my mind is set and where I’m at right now; I’m going to do as much as I can and the most that I can.”
The students of Brier Terrace have many opinions on Super Bowl XLIX.
"I thought that we had a second chance, but we failed. I think it was a really bad call when they played it." -Brandon Pelayo, eighth grader
"It was a good game, but it was also disappointing because of the loss." -Trayce Hellie, eighth grader
"[The Super Bowl] was awesome. [The] Patriots won [and] I don't think that they cheated." -Lexi Fletcher, eighth grader
"[There were] bad calls, luck for the Patriots, and even though we lost, the twelfth man is still alive." -Andy Nguyen, eighth grader
"The Seahawks could have done better by not making that play, but the interception was actually pretty amazing. It was a close game and I think both teams did well." -Henry Jones, seventh grader
"I thought it was super disappointing because the last twenty seconds Russell Wilson, he threw the ball to the red zone [when] he could've [passed] the ball to Marshawn Lynch. Next time I think that they could beat the Patriots and maybe Russell Wilson or or anyone who's going to throw the ball should just run it down if they're that close." -Kelsey Williams, seventh grader
"I think that it was disappointing because we were doing so well and then the last twenty seconds, the Patriots intercepted the ball. Everyone was mad and was really sad but we will be back to the Super Bowl next year." -Susan Gabbard, seventh grader
"I believe the Super Bowl was a great game for both the Seahawks and Patriots but I think the Seahawks would have won if it weren't for the last play; it was a very poorly executed play. If we ran the ball through with Marshawn it would have been an easy win. Next time we get an opportunity like this we should either hand it off to Lynch (if he doesn't retire) or do a fake handoff and have Russell Wilson sneak the ball because all of the Patriot defense knew they were going to hand it off to Marshawn but if we pulled a fake, we could have won. Also, if we passed to a different player like Doug Baldwin, we could have had a better chance of getting the last touchdown because Lockette is definitely not one of our best receivers. All in all, we had a great season and I'm proud to be a 12. Go Hawks!" -Mustafa Balikci, eighth grader
Although most students felt disappointed about the outcome of the Super Bowl, they are also hopeful about the next season.
