Marianne was Co-Editor in Chief along with Annika Prom last year when she was in eighth grade. Marianne wants to continue to pursue Journalism as a future career. She goes to MTHS (Mountlake Terrace High School) and writes articles in their newspaper, the Hawkeye. Marianne started to do Journalism when she was in fourth grade. She wrote a newspaper with her friend, until Marianne moved.

When asked the difference between the Hawkeye and the Bulldog Brief, Marianne said, “High school journalism goes much more in depth into news covered than middle school journalism. High school journalism also covers a broader spectrum of news- what’s covered at the high school includes not only school news, but local news as well.”

What she loved most about the Bulldog Brief was the fast pace and the ability to spread news and stories to people who otherwise wouldn’t know about those topics. “Personally, I value education highly. I believe everyone has the right to a good education, and for me journalism is like educating the public in an unbiased fashion. I haven’t met many other people who appreciate timed writing as much as I do.”

Marianne’s strength in the Bulldog Brief was writing. She mostly worked on articles in the newspaper, and loved it. Marianne liked working with Annika as co-editors-in-chief. What they did to split up the work is choose that whoever had the most time, would do the biggest project and whoever had the least amount of time, would do the least amount of work in the project.

Advice that Marianne would give to Hannah and Nolan (the current Co-Editors-in-Chief) would be to just be right on the spot. They need to be on deadlines and try to be as precise as possible. “Don’t be worried about ‘editing too harshly’. It’s constructive criticism. You’re editing to make the article as well written as it can be.”
