Those lazy weekends are always inevitable. Sleeping in and slowly going through the day doing nothing. But you’re not alone, we all have those weekends. There is a solution. In the Pacific Northwest we pride ourselves in having the most beautiful hikes in the world. So put the puzzle together… Go on a hike!
Whistle Lake: I met a fellow hiker, William Henderson, while hiking in Anacortes, Washington in Whistle Lake. “The lake is surrounded by trees and Mount Erie towers over it, making an absolutely beautiful picture for the cameras,” Henderson says. “I love this lake, I really do, and swimming in it is amazing.” Whistle Lake Trail is a 3.7 mile loop trail located near Anacortes, Washington that features a lake, and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking (I saw a motorcycle, horses, and a few bikes on the way) and is available year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash. I absolutely recommend this trail to anyone because it gains little to no elevation, and is a relatively short hike.
Rachel Lake: Rachel Lake is a 7.6 mile out and back trail located near Cle Elum, Washington. It features a beautiful landscape with trees, a lake, and a long stretch of mountains. I contacted Leah Adint, a runner, who recently ran the trail. “As the others say, it's pretty easy start/finish, great for running. The last third is steeper and makes you work a little to the lake. There are lots of cool camping spots at the top and it’s easy enough to walk around the lake and find a place for lunch,” she says. “This trail is definitely more advanced than the Whistle Lake Trail, but the view is definitely worth it.”
