Ms. Rasmussen, who serves as Chair of the Brier Terrace Middle School Math Department, is September's Alderwood - Terrace Rotary Educator of the Month. Ms. Rasmussen is currently in her ninth year of being a teacher.

According to the Alderwood-Terrace Rotary website, “The Rotary Club of Alderwood-Terrace was founded in April of 1988. They are very proud of the smaller, yet, productive, engaging Club. The community service includes annual projects that support other great organizations such as The Homework Center and Clothes For Kids. They also support specific requests from individuals and other service groups. The international service includes funding to a school in Africa, a new clinic in Guatemala, and a group traveled to Peru in 2012 to build a playground at a school in a rural, impoverished community.”

The Rotary Educator award is Ms. Rasmussen’s first award she has gotten since she became a teacher. For getting the award, Ms. Rasmussen got to have the award be presented to her at a special breakfast. Ms. Rasmussen says that winning the award hasn't changed anything about her life. She thinks that there are a lot of great staff members here at BTMS that deserve to be recognized by this award. “I really like seeing that aha moment when a student finally gets the lesson. It’s my favorite thing about being a math teacher,” said Ms. Rasmussen.

People who have won the award previously from Brier Terrace Middle school are Ms. Case, who was a Humanities Teacher but is retired, Ms. McVay, who is our ASB/Attendance Secretary, Ms. Anderson, who worked as a Paraeducator, and Ms. Daniels, who is our school Counselor.
