Frankenstein follows a young man, Victor Frankenstein, and how his obsession with creating life results in a monster, whom, soon after being brought to life he begins to loathe. the book is filled with difficult, but interesting dialogue, and captivating descriptions. The plot is interesting, and the character interactions very real. This book brings up the question of what it means to be “human.” The monster was created as an experiment, and is arguably the main tragedy of the book, because of how others shun him and see him as a non-human monster. Even though he is self aware, he is treated as less than human, even by his creator. His lack of name can be seen as an example of how separated from humanity he really is.
It is a difficult read, but the story and resolution are definitely worth it. Keep in mind that it was written in 1818, so it’s a pretty advanced read. If you have trouble reading old English dialogue, then this might not be the book for you. If you are looking for a challenge, or just really enjoy older books, then this would definitely be a good book for you.
