Brier Terrace hosted a Veteran’s Day assembly on November 10th. Veteran’s Day is a national holiday that celebrates all military veterans. It is annually honored on November 11th, but was celebrated on the day before, which is the birthday of the Marine Corps. The band, led by Ms. Zumbo, played several songs, such as the Star Spangled Banner, American Heroes March, and Advance March.

During the assembly, a letter from a former student, who is also seventh grader Elijah Vance’s brother, was read. He is now in the Marine and became a mechanic. Mr. Sullivan’s brother, Tim Sullivan was there during the assembly to speak. His title is Retired Master Chief Sullivan. He spoke about our veterans, and what it means to be one. According to Tim Sullivan, people serving the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, National Guard, etc., are all considered veterans, and have a commitment to support the U.S. All veterans have honor, respect, devotion to duty, courage, integrity, and the ability to put service before themselves. A veteran’s family has to make these commitments, too. He said to the veterans, “Our nation salutes you and we are gathered here today to salute you.”

Another veteran, a man named Jim Adams, spoke at the assembly. He talked about an artist who draws pictures of fallen heroes for free. This artist’s name is Mike, and he has done about 4500 drawings. Mr. Adams said that Mike draws the eyes of the hero first. On Sunday, January 24th, Mike is giving a presentation about drawing at Lake Forest Park for anyone who would like to come.
