NaNoWriMo is a nonprofit writing program that stands for National Novel Writing Month. This program is for anyone who wants to write a novel. Students at Brier Terrace have already started writing on NaNoWriMo in their English classes. It is the chance for students to let their imagination shine.

The program helps students improve their writing skills, like how to build character and how dialogue works, and it also changes how you view your writing. “You gain a whole new appreciation for writing from the point of view of a writer and not just a reader,” said Ms. Garrison.

Students have shown improvements over time as they continue NaNoWriMo. “For them to be able to make the writing and ideas flow, the students are able to explain clearer thoughts in their writing. When I read their paper, it works. It’s clear and makes a statement,” said Ms. Kasprzyk, an English teacher and librarian at Brier Terrace. “Be creative to use your imagination, think outside the box and have fun with writing.”

If you want to join the NaNoWriMo program, then go to NaNoWriMo.org to sign up and start writing. NaNoWriMo starts on November 1st and ends on the November 30th.
