The 2016 Presidential election is drawing closer! *Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are the leading Republican candidates and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are the leading Democratic candidates. As these people are winning votes from across the nation, it makes people wonder, what are their ideals and beliefs on the issues that make them so popular?

Bernie Sanders: Bernie Sanders is the longest serving Independent in U.S. Congressional history, popular mayor of Burlington, Vermont from 1981-1989, only presidential candidate without a PAC, and Senate committee chairman on Veteran Affairs. According to PBS.org and https://berniesanders.com/issues/, his ideals are to charge companies for carbon emissions, reform student loans, break up big banks and open up federal reserves, cut taxes for the middle class, create decent paying jobs, fight for LGBT and women’s equality, and to raise some taxes on the wealthy. He is also opposed to war in Iraq.

Donald Trump: Donald Trump is the leading Republican presidential candidate! According to PBS.org, Huffington Post, and www.donaldjtrump.com, Donald Trump’s ideals are to deport illegal immigrants, create jobs, relieve the taxes for middle class Americans, build a great wall on the U.S. - Mexican border and have Mexico pay for that wall, and to tax the Ford motor company 35% for every car that comes from Mexico. Some people think that Trump’s ideals are outrageous while some think that his ideals are reasonable. What do you think about Trump’s ideals?

Hillary Clinton: So far, polls have shown that Hillary Clinton is the most popular Democratic candidate and is currently the most popular presidential candidate. She was the First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. According to PBS.org, Forbes.com, and https://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/, her ideals are to keep and strengthen Obamacare, cut middle class taxes, make America the clean superpower of the 21st century, and to waive deportation for some immigrants. She doesn’t support the TPP (Trans Pacific Pact), which means that 12 Pacific countries will have free trade without taxes between them.

Ted Cruz: Ted Cruz is the second most popular Republican candidate. He is a Senator and former Prosecutor. According to PBS.org and https://www.tedcruz.org/issues/, his ideals are to end Common Core standards (due to it being the “national standards being dictated from Washington”), cut corporate taxes to 15%, repeal Obamacare, block any current effort that allows undocumented immigrants to legally remain in the U.S., and change immigration policies.

*All of the statistics above are of January 2016
