Both the seventh and eighth grade girls girls had their first basketball game of the year on February 2nd. Even though both the seventh and eighth grade teams lost their games, the players pulled out some points that they thought were really interesting. Coach Mike Jones said that he was really happy with the game because there were a lot of firsts in it. He and his wife Amy, who is the coach for the seventh graders, both agreed that firsts are important—first basket, first 3 pointer, first game.
Sophie Kimura is a player for the seventh grade team. “Fun would be the word to describe it,” she said when asked about her first game on the Brier Terrace team. She also agreed that defense was on their list of things to work on. There was one thing that really impressed her and that was a shot made by the Harbour Pointe Hawks (their opponent). The girl did a granny shot that went straight into the hoop.
Allison Reyes-Davies is a player for the eighth grade team. She said the loss of the first game was upsetting. She also believed that they could have had a better game, and did not work hard enough. Another reason she was upset was because she had two friends on the opposing team. Though this did not dampen her game, it made for a great conversation. She was very happy that she made her first 3 pointer of the year. Allison also requested a huge shout out for Sarah S. who just came off an injury and this was her first game back.
