Friday, January 20th, 2017 marked the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump, who won the election in November. His policies range from increasing the United States military size and deporting undocumented immigrants, to restricting immigration and tax reform.
President Trump’s plans for the future are controversial among many, so much that it has led to protests all over the United States. The President’s address, however, had a different tone and didn’t mention the details of his actual policies. Ben Pratt, an eighth grader here at BTMS, told us that he feels “disenfranchised. I feel like [Trump’s speech] was very clearly not written by him and it is kind of pandering and giving the audience what they want to hear.”
When asked about Trump’s inauguration speech, Natalie Song replied, “I still don't like him at all, but we are a democracy, so he can't make all the choices. Honestly, he's a businessman and I feel like he's trying to sell the nation his great idea that he can only describe vaguely. And with the ban he recently put into place, I just hope the next four years will be fine.”
