Pool Re-opening!

Have you ever been interested in having a BTMS swimming team? Good news! The pool is opening back up again! After talking to a group of school officials, students interested in a swim team will be able to join when the pool reopens in May. Tryouts will start the week after the opening, for both boys and girls. More information about tryouts will be given later on.

One student, Tiffany Oliver, stated that she is “really excited that the pool is opening back up again. Last year I know that they were working on this issue and I can’t wait until tryouts. I’m in a swim team outside of school, so I really hope I can make this team.”

“Back then there was an accident that was the cause of the school district closing down the pool. We can’t say, and we won’t. It’s too much for the kids to take on. We just hope that everything will go as planned and that everyone stays safe,” Martha Silverstein, a past parent volunteer mentioned.

Those who make the swimming team will compete against several middle schools in and out of the district. Only those who work hard and are willing to will go on to the championships. After speaking to former BTMS swimming coaches Samantha Lyder (seventh/eighth grade girls teams) and Mason Ford (seventh/eighth grade boys teams), they both stated that they were “super excited and ready to work with the students.”

“I previously taught lessons up in Marysville until about a month ago when I moved down here. Now I’m going to coach the kids here at BTMS who are interested in joining the team. All my life I’ve coached high schoolers or adults, so it’ll be a bit different for me, but I’m ready to take on the challenge,” Samantha Lyder told us when asked how she felt about becoming the new coach of the swimming team.
