Recess is a usual break for students by going outside to play or stretch or hang out with friends. However, once we left our elementary schools, that feature has been lost, but we have lunch to cover that. Many people want to have more time outside and just get out of their classrooms for a while. The message got to the Edmonds School District, and they have decided that in between fifth and sixth period we will have a twenty five minute recess.
Many students were excited for the return of recess and are very anxious to both play and hang out with their friends more. Sarah Nintendo, a student at BTMS said, “Wow, I can’t believe this! My friends and I get to hang out a little bit but now, we get to hang out more! The district is very awesome!”
Many students are also questioning what will be available at recess. Sports equipment will be available, such as basketballs and frisbees. The cafeteria will be open for foosball, casual talk, and board games. Also, the track field will be available for the 100 mile club program as usual. The field will be open for free use within reason. Also, use of mobile devices will now be allowed when outside. Samantha Green, a BTMS student said, “I can’t wait to use my phone outside and play with my friends! This is way too awesome!” Recess will also be accessible indoors in the hallways but the volume must be at a reasonable level.
